Description
This course provides students with best practices and methods the ability to evaluate and construct or reconstruct, Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).
Format and delivery
- Delivery setting
The theoretical component for this course will be done in a classroom setting and includes the use of a Learning Management System.
The practical components will be done in a technical explosives' laboratory on site.

Learning outcomes
- Ability to analyze a sophisticated electronically initiated Improvised Explosive Device and its functions;
- Ability to construct (or reconstruct) a technically advanced, complex Improvised Explosive Device using electronic switching and initiation
Eligibility and mandatory requirements
- This course is open to police explosive technicians or forensic identification specialists
- Registrants must have a full understanding of police explosives technician duties
- Registrants must have experience related to explosives disposal duties
- Registrants must have the ability and confidence to formulate on-site plans during emergency situations where disorder and confusion occur
- Acceptance or refusal in the course is at the discretion of the Canadian Police College
Assessment
Success in the course is based on participation and completion of all required assignments through out the course.
