Description
Unsolved historical investigations (also known as cold cases) can be complex and challenging for investigators. This course:
- teaches investigators a methodological approach to historical investigations
- covers the most recent advancements in forensic technologies
- uses case studies to illustrate different strategies for this type of investigation

Learning outcomes
After this course, participants will be able to:
- Assess current practices in historical investigations
- Determine which practices are the most effective
- Develop investigative models based on specific methodologies
- Identify case characteristics to develop a critical path for the investigation
- Evaluate the types of cases most likely to be solved
- Develop a prioritizing process for cases
Eligibility and mandatory requirements
This course is for law enforcement investigators who:
- have extensive investigative experience in homicide investigation
Assessment
- The college will issue a certificate to participants who successfully complete the course
- Candidates must fully participate and attend each class to pass
- The instructor may conduct re-tests or re-evaluations at their discretion
