Description
Law enforcement and other agencies use strategic intelligence assessments for a variety of purposes that include determining threat levels, setting priorities, planning, and influencing operations. This course prepares participants to analyse intelligence issues in a systematic way and to produce valid and actionable strategic intelligence products. The course examines how to plan, collect, evaluate, collate, analyse and disseminate information to produce an intelligence product which meets the needs of a client.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, successful participants will be able to:
- Conceptualize the intelligence problem and create corresponding research questions
- Produce a project plan for a strategic intelligence analysis assessment
- Understand collation methods suitable for different types of data and evaluate information in a strategic intelligence analysis assessment
- Analyse quantifiable and non-quantifiable data using select analytical techniques
- Report the analytical findings and results of a strategic intelligence analysis assessment to clients
Eligibility and mandatory requirements
- This course is offered to applicants who are:
- Either a full-time intelligence or crime analyst or a supervisor of an intelligence analysis unit from a recognized agency or a Criminal Intelligence Service Canada member agency (Category 2 or 3); or
- Assigned to, or about to be assigned to, strategic intelligence analysis activities
- Applicants must provide proof of the successful completion of the Tactical Analysis Intelligence Course (TIAC)
- Applicants are required to complete a Strategic Intelligence Analysis Course (SIAC) Candidate Questionnaire (PDF, 70.8 KB) and include it in their application
- Acceptance or refusal in the course is at the discretion of the Canadian Police College
Assessment
- Success in the course is based on full participation and completion of all required assignments
- Various evaluation methods are used, including a project plan, a collection plan, a written briefing, a written strategic intelligence analysis assessment, as well as an oral briefing
- Re-testing or re-evaluation is conducted at the discretion of the course instructor
Transfer credits
Participants who successfully complete the strategic Intelligence Analysis Course may be eligible for transfer credit into the Justice Institute of British Columbia (JIBC) Graduate Certificate in Intelligence Analysis or the JIBC Graduate Certificate in Tactical Criminal Analysis.
