Canadian Police College staff help set up tipi on CPC grounds

On Tuesday May 20, 2025, several members of the Canadian Police College (CPC) staff helped set up a tipi on the CPC grounds.

The Canadian Police College grounds are located on the traditional unceded and unsurrendered territory of the Algonquin Anishnaabeg People. The CPC engages several events each year to recognize the importance of Reconciliation with Indigenous peoples. The CPC's reconciliation journey includes setting up a tipi for the summer months.

Tipis are culturally significant for many Indigenous people. In recognition of the importance of tipis, the process of setting up the tipi started and finished with a traditional smudging ceremony.

We extend our sincere thanks to Jeff Poulette, a retired First Nations RCMP Member, who guided the process with his generosity and knowledge.
